5 Things You Might Not Know About Coffee
Ah, our dark master, the coffee bean. We crave it, we love it, we have to it. For some this is blissful slavery, for others, the struggle for freedom wages daily. Love it or hate it we all drink coffee. Here are 5 things you might not know about coffee.
1. Doctor Recommended?
That's right, studies have shown that coffee can actually be good for you. One or two cups a day of brewed coffee supply us with most of our antioxidants our body needs to stay healthy. So go ahead and fire up that coffee maker. Of course too much caffeine is bad for you. So remember, everything in moderation.
2. Shape Up and Smell the Coffee
Hot and sweaty after a hard workout? Muscles feeling stiff and soar? Well, after you've rehydrated and hit the showers, it's time for a little muscle therapy. So why don't you pour yourself a nice cup of... coffee? Yup, it's been shown that moderate doses of caffeine can help to reduce muscle pain. But keep it to around 2 cups at most. If not, you'll be up tossing and turning when you should be resting those muscles.
3. Cuppling
It's been claimed by some experts that coffee can enhance the sexual experience. Wine? Roses? Candlelight? Nah. You and that special someone need to be huddled over a cup of dark roast, gazing into the steamy depths. Also getting the reservation at that swanky new eatery is no easy task while coffee bars are everywhere and open late. So the next time you've got the urge and you want to make sure you're partner does as well, then it's time get some coffee. Then let nature take its course. This could be one time you want that caffeine to keep you up.
4. Hot Property
Coffee is so hot it not only burns your mouth if you're not careful, but it also burns up the commodity sales chart. Coffee is the most traded commodity in the world. We shudder at the notion of an oil shortage and how that would affect the economy. What if there was a global coffee shortage? Keep your fingers crossed or we might find ourselves turning Starbucks locations into bomb shelters one of these days.
5. Brew Ha Ha!
It's true, decaffeinated coffee has caffeine. So if you think you can guzzle the stuff down, think again. Drink five to ten cups of decaf and you'll be getting the same amount of caffeine as two cups of regular coffee. Try telling your boss you were up all night on a caffeine high because you drank too much decaf. If you're lucky they'll have regular coffee at the unemployment agency.
And there you have it, a sampling of some of the mysteries coffee has brewing in its unfathomable depths. So the next time you're stuck in line after a hard day's (or night's) work, waiting for that rich relief, you'll have something else to think about rather than worrying whether or not the barista forgets the low-fat milk.
